Our partners in Tanzania, TPAWU, sent us a report of their actions around Valentine's Day:
We prepared awareness messages relevant to VALENTINES DAY and its relation with workers and employers.
We used the awareness messages, based on the Six Key Demands to prepare posters to be displayed and leaflets to be distributed during the Valentine Day
We agreed to celebrate Valentine at farm level. Management agreed to avail time, flowers and soft drinks and provide the best food for the workers.
The project agreed to organise cultural group to compose songs, which carries awareness messages. The celebrations were made at farm level and we were able to participate in three workplaces as follows;
On 13 February Hortanzia Farm 153 workers and management participated in the celebration event
On 14 February most of the farms celebrated, we were able to be at Kiliflora Loliondo. This was fantastic! We explained the objectives of valentine day in relation to workers. All workers at the farm participated in the celebration and understood the meaning of valentine and its relation to workers and the management. The management delivered some speeches and commitments to improve the working conditions. Workers representatives also did the same and insisted on maintaining peace and harmony and work hard.
On 15 February, Valentine Day was celebrated at Enza Zaden - (seed farm) Management allowed all workers to meet and celebrate the day. The cultural group (traditional dance) presented messages on valentine and this was very entertaining and educative.
We are very happy that the event was successful and was appreciated by everyone who was there.
