UK Campaigning

Since last November, we have been running our Flower Campaign of awareness raising. We have had stalls at several events, including one for Valentine's Day and one for International Women's Day.

Since this project is with women flower workers, we have a theme. We decided that we wanted to give people flowers to raise awareness, but that we would make the flowers, with help from supporters, rather than buy them.

We are amazed at the fact that many people in the UK do not even realise how many of their cut flowers come from Africa, so the awareness raising message is a simple one:

This flower was handmade in support of African women flower farm workers.

  • 59% of flowers imported into Europe come from Africa
  • 70% of flower farm workers are women
  • 100% of these women earn less than a Living Wage
  • NO BOYCOTT – these jobs are crucial for women workers and we ask you not to boycott African grown flowers.

Women Working Worldwide – supporting change for women workers

Supporters also wrote and signed messages of solidarity to women workers, translated into local languages. You can see some of the messages here and also write your own here.
