Lets Clean up Fashion 2011

report cover

Labour Behind the Label have released a report in London Fashion Week - Let's Clean up Fashion 2011. It grades top high street retailers on the work they are doing to improve pay and conditions for workers in their supply chains.

Website info here, or download a copy from our new page on Interesting Reports. Worst offenders included GAP (which has abandoned plans to work towards a living wage), and H&M (which has yet to commit to the term 'living wage' at all). Those pulling ahead turned out to be Monsoon, M&S, Inditex (Zara), and Next.

If you'd like to blog about it, here's a press release that went out earlier in the week. Or you could tweet / facebook, whichever works for you.

There's an online action on their website calling on Gap and H&M to do better.

Ripe with abuse: a new report from Human Rights Watch.

"(Cape Town) – Workers in Western Cape province who help produce South Africa’s renowned wines and fruit are denied adequate housing, proper safety equipment, and basic labor rights, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The government of South Africa, along with the industries that employ these laborers, should take immediate steps to improve their working and housing conditions, Human Rights Watch said."

More information, including a good video, on the Human Rights Watch website.  Or download a copy of the report from our Interesting Reports page.
